A children's education website, cleaned and back online after a hack

A hacked children's education website was serving spam and redirects. We cleaned it, closed the way in and hardened it.

Hacked-site rescue
Results
[time to recovery] [warnings cleared: yes/no] [client quote, with permission]

Draft case study. The project is real; the details in amber need confirming with Sri (and the client’s permission) before launch.

The problem

The site was hacked: visitors were seeing spam and being redirected away from the real content. [Add what the client noticed first, e.g. a browser warning or reports from parents.]

What we did

  • Took a full backup before touching anything
  • Removed malicious code and spam pages from files and the database
  • Found and closed the entry point [e.g. an outdated plugin]
  • Updated core, plugins and themes, reset passwords and added two-factor login
  • Requested reviews to clear search and browser warnings

The result

[Time back online, warnings cleared, anything measurable. Real numbers only.]
